Abstract: Measurements from seven flight paths at two different altitudes were acquired over trimodal wave system off Norwegian coast on 11 March. Comparison of SAR- and buoy-derived peak wavelength and direction shows some scatter. Scanning distortion is shown to cause significant bias in SAR and buoy comparison for slow-flying aircraft imaging ocean swell. Correction of SAR spectra for this condition significantly improves SAR-buoy comparison. Investigates relative importance of motion-related mechanisms, and tilt contributions using four non-dimensional imaging parameters.
