Abstract: | Account of seventeenth eruption (on 17 January 1991) since records began (A.D. 1104). Activity finally ceased after 53 days of eruption. Volcano is estimated to have spewed out about 120 million m³ of lava, from depth of 7-8 km below Earth's surface, covering area of 22 km². |
