Abstract: Baker Lake is used for flood protection and hydropower generation, and is fed by 60 glaciers. Since 1980, area of glaciers has decreased 8%, and, given present climate, it will decline by 20 to 25% in next 20 a, reducing summer glacier runoff by 35%. Low snowpacks have reduced storage capacity of glaciers. Discusses work of North Cascades Glacier Climate Project, aimed at developing method of forecasting summer runoff and spring storage capacity.
