Record #110280:
Glacier runoff into Baker Lake, Washington / Mauri S. Pelto.
Title: | Glacier runoff into Baker Lake, Washington / Mauri S. Pelto. |
Author(s): | Pelto, Mauri S. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. (1991.), Vol. 72(17 (Supplement)) (1991) |
Abstract: | Baker Lake is used for flood protection and hydropower generation, and is fed by 60 glaciers. Since 1980, area of glaciers has decreased 8%, and, given present climate, it will decline by 20 to 25% in next 20 a, reducing summer glacier runoff by 35%. Low snowpacks have reduced storage capacity of glaciers. Discusses work of North Cascades Glacier Climate Project, aimed at developing method of forecasting summer runoff and spring storage capacity. |
Notes: | Eos : transactions, American Geophysical Union. Vol. 72(17 (Supplement)) :130 (1991). American Geophysical Union-Mineralogical Society of America 1991 Spring Meeting. Abstract volume. |
