The design of a high-pressure low-temperature triaxial deformation cell for ice / P.R. Sammonds, S.A.F. Murrell, M.A. Rist, D. Butler.
Title: | The design of a high-pressure low-temperature triaxial deformation cell for ice / P.R. Sammonds, S.A.F. Murrell, M.A. Rist, D. Butler. |
Author(s): | Sammonds, P. R. Murrell, S. A. F. Rist, M. A. Butler, D. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Cold Regions Science and Technology. (1991.), Vol. 19(2) (1991) |
Abstract: | Cell is capable of deforming cylindrical ice specimens 120 mm long by 40 mm diameter at strain rates of up to 10⁻² s⁻¹ under closed-loop servo-control, at confining pressures up to 300 MPa and temperatures down to -90°C. Discusses unusual problems involving pressure vessel design and material selection, high-pressure seals, test specimen jacketing and instrumentation, resulting from low temperature operating requirements. |
