Record #110180:

On the numerical simulation of the sea ice ridging process / M.A. Hopkins, William D. Hibler, III, Gregory M. Flato.

Title: On the numerical simulation of the sea ice ridging process / M.A. Hopkins, William D. Hibler, III, Gregory M. Flato.
Author(s): Hopkins, M. A.
Hibler, William D.,
Flato, Gregory M.
Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C3) (1991)
Abstract: Develops two-dimensional particle simulation model of ridging process in which ridges are formed from floating layer of rubble compressed between converging multiyear floes. Energy consumed in ridge growth, including dissipation, is explicitly calculated. Experiments are performed to establish dependence of this energy on velocity of multiyear floes and on shape, friction coefficient, and inelasticity of rubble blocks; results are discussed as basis for future, more detailed experiments.
