Failure analysis of impacting ice floes / S.U. Bhat, S.K. Choi, T. Wierzbicki, D.G. Karr.
Title: | Failure analysis of impacting ice floes / S.U. Bhat, S.K. Choi, T. Wierzbicki, D.G. Karr. |
Author(s): | Bhat, S. U. Choi, S. K. Wierzbicki, T. Karr, D. G. |
Date: | 1991. |
In: | Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. (1991.), Vol. 113(2) (1991) |
Abstract: | Impacting on Arctic offshore structure. Ice floe idealized as edge-loaded, inertia-driven, thin circular disc made of elastic-brittle material obeying Drucker-Prager failure envelope. Location of failure initiation and associated load are calculated and fracture mechanics of global splitting of floe by crack propagation are presented. |
Notes: | Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering. Vol. 113(2) :171-178 (1991). Revised version of paper presented in: Sinha, N.K. and others, eds. Proceedings of the Eighth International Conference on Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering--1989--The Hague, The Netherlands, March 19-23, 1989. Vol. 4. Arctic and polar technology. New York, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 1989, p. 275-285. |
