Record #110106:

Chick growth and survival in gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua): effect of hatching asynchrony and variation in food supply / T.D. Williams, J.P. Croxall.

Title: Chick growth and survival in gentoo penguins (Pygoscelis papua): effect of hatching asynchrony and variation in food supply / T.D. Williams, J.P. Croxall.
Author(s): Williams, T. D.
Croxall, J. P.
Date: 1991.
In: Polar Biology. (1991.), Vol. 11(3) (1991)
Abstract: Using data from 1976, 1979 and 1986-88 investigates 1) whether intra-clutch egg-size variation and/or hatching asynchrony give rise to initial size hierarchy within broods and 2) the extent to which initial size hierarchy within broods effects subsequent differential growth and/or survival of siblings in years of different food supply. Also considers other possible reasons for frequent occurrence of asynchronous hatching in gentoos. Field studies conducted at Bird Island, South Georgia.
