Abstract: Detailed study of historical and contemporary skin clothing procedures based on comparison of construction methods used by Inuit in Coppermine, Bathurst Inlet, Cambridge Bay and Arviat. Includes information on caribou skin selection and preparation; development of patterns using eye, hand and string measurements; and cutting, fitting and alteration techniques. Also discusses social, economic and physical factors influencing clothes production.
