Abstract: In order to ensure safer future drilling operations, documents presence of abnormally pressured shales, characterizes appearance of these pressures on well logs, and identifies mechanisms responsible for them. Abnormal pressure found where fluid pressure in rock pores exceeds normal hydrostatic pressure.
