Abstract: Fragments of slate slabs with drawings were first found in 1981 in west Chukotka and have been dated to about 2500 years old. They mostly depict animals, dwellings or pictograms of symbolic images. Similar drawings have been found in other areas such as Urals, and among Khanty, Sel'kupi and other native peoples.
