Record #109916:

Environmental factors affecting 17th-19th century whaling in the Greenland Sea / Chesley W. Sanger.

Title: Environmental factors affecting 17th-19th century whaling in the Greenland Sea / Chesley W. Sanger.
Author(s): Sanger, Chesley W.
Date: 1991.
In: Polar Record. (1991.), Vol. 27(161) (1991)
Abstract: Much of fishery took place along constantly shifting ice edge, variations in which stamped unique character on each season's operation. Whaling master's detailed knowledge of both long-term and short-term effects of currents, temperatures and winds on Greenland Sea pack ice greatly enhanced his chances of procuring paying cargo of whale oil and bone.
