Record #109914:

Impact of the Geosat altimeter wet tropospheric range correction in the Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian Sea / Douglas A. May, Jeffrey D. Hawkins.

Title: Impact of the Geosat altimeter wet tropospheric range correction in the Greenland-Iceland-Norwegian Sea / Douglas A. May, Jeffrey D. Hawkins.
Author(s): May, Douglas A.
Hawkins, Jeffrey D.
Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C4) (1991)
Abstract: Analyses water-vapour data derived from special sensor microwave imager (SSM/I) in 1987 and 1988. Results indicate that horizontal spatial variations in altimeter height corrections can sometimes equal or exceed magnitude (10-20 cm/100 km) of true sea-surface height gradients. Substantial differences in water-vapour gradients were observed in SSSM/I datasets 12 hours apart; recommends use of nadir-viewing radiometer.
