Record #109911:

Diet selection by vertibrate herbivores in the high arctic of Greenland / David R. Klein, Christian Bay.

Title: Diet selection by vertibrate herbivores in the high arctic of Greenland / David R. Klein, Christian Bay.
Author(s): Klein, David R.
Bay, Christian.
Date: 1991.
In: Holarctic Ecology. (1991.), Vol. 14(2) (1991)
Abstract: Study carried out in Peary and Kronprins Christian lands, July-August 1987. Microhistological analysis of faecal droppings indicates that graminoids and Salix arctica are primary food items of muskox [Ovibos moschatus], Arctic hare [Lepus arcticus] and collared lemming [Dicrostonyx groenlandicus]. Plant biomass available during growing season varied with vegetation types from <2 g m⁻² in polar barrens to 34 g m⁻² in sedge fens. Clustered distribution of vegetation minimizes competition among vertebrate herbivores.
