Record #109903:

Unprotected larval development in the Antarctic scallop Adamussium colbecki (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Pectinidae) / Paul Arthur Berkman, Thomas R. Waller, Stephen P. Alexander.

Title: Unprotected larval development in the Antarctic scallop Adamussium colbecki (Mollusca: Bivalvia: Pectinidae) / Paul Arthur Berkman, Thomas R. Waller, Stephen P. Alexander.
Author(s): Berkman, Paul Arthur.
Waller, Thomas R.
Alexander, Stephen P.
Date: 1991.
In: Antarctic Science. (1991.), Vol. 3(2) (1991)
Abstract: Makes anatomical, ecological and historical comparisons with Laternula elliptica, an Antarctic bivalve known to protect its young. Comparison suggests that unprotected larval development in Adamussium colbecki persists because of unusual anatomical and ecological adaptations evolved in the Southern Ocean since the early Oligocene.
