| Abstract: | Relates history of World Park concept and comments on importance of preserving wilderness values in Antarctica. Describes role of Convention on the Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Resource Activities (CRAMRA) in stimulating international attention to environmental protection of Antarctica. Compares relative merits of CRAMRA and an alternative comprehensive environmental protection scheme, and evaluates shortcomings of Antarctic Treaty System in management of Antarctica. Describes growing pressures, such as tourism, and notes growing interest of the United Nations and of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in management of the continent. |
