Record #109817:

Seasonal and interannual variability of wind stress curl over the Nordic seas / Steingrímur Jónsson.

Title: Seasonal and interannual variability of wind stress curl over the Nordic seas / Steingrímur Jónsson.
Author(s): Jónsson, Steingrímur.
Date: 1991.
In: Journal of Geophysical Research. (1991.), Vol. 96(C2) (1991)
Abstract: Study used over 32 years of wind data, based on surface-pressure maps, from Hindcast data base developed by Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Mean wind stress curl pattern is characterized by very large values over most of area, especially Greenland Sea. This gives rise to cyclonic circulation, with maximum transport in western boundary current of about 35 Sv. Centre of sole gyre lies between Jan Mayen and Greenland. Seasonal variation in wind stress curl is very large, with almost negligible values during summer; reaches full winter strength by November.
