Abstract: Search for atmospheric atomic mercury as possible tracer gas for geothermal energy exploration was carried out in three geothermal fields in south-west Iceland (Svartsengi, Eldvörp and Krísuvík), using differential absorption lidar technique. Contrary to expectations, concentrations basically only at Atlantic background value of about 2 ng/m³ were found in Iceland.
