Abstract: Considers stress faced by participants on 1988 Canadian/Soviet Transpolar Skitrek on 1730 km expedition from Novaya Zemlaya to Ellesmere Island focusing on: sustained high daily energy expenditure; exposure to severe windchill; occasional general body cooling; exposure to UV radiation; possible geomagnetic effects; psychological pressures; hormonal consequences of sustained exposure to physical danger and psychological pressures; nutritional consequences of restricted high fat diet.
