Abstract: | In sparsely populated areas it has all through history been custom to bury dead temporarily near place of death to await transport to consecrated ground by boat or sleigh. Same tradition of burying dead on islands or headlands has been practised among Saami since prehistoric times. Article describes two summer grave islands where last burial took place probably in summer 1913. |
