Translated title: Language - the role of religion - Finnish perspective - contribution to Social Democratic party congress, 1952.
Author(s): Johansson, Henning.
Brännström, Olaus.
Salo, Tuure.
Lassinantti, Ragnar.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: [Sweden]: Interculture
Language: Swedish.
In: Nordkalott. Ragnar Lassinanttis perspektiv. (1990.),
Abstract: Concerns specifically Tornedal matters. Contributors are lecturer, bishop and Finnish district judge. Themes are social significance of language, advantage or handicap of bilingualism, special character of Laestadinism (Laestadius was originally Swedish speaker, but learnt Finnish and used it in his revival) and character of Finnish inhabitants in North. Lassinantti's parents were Finns, one from each side of frontier, and were upset by swedenisation policy after Finnish war, itself reaction to strong Finnish nationalism. Ragnar was pleased with improved status of minorities after WW2. His career went via army service and police in Stockholm and Luleå to parliament, busy editing and writing, and then to county governorship, becoming North Calotte's "godfather". He made valuable Swedish translation of ethnologist Samuli Paulaharju's work.
