| Abstract: | First quarter of report explains nature of gas hydrates, their affect on exploiting gas resources and their relationship to permafrost under land or sea. It includes geophysical methods for detection of submarine permafrost. Later chapters include physical and geological setting of western and northern Barents Sea, evaluation of permafrost and gas hydrates there and in Svalbard, data analysis, wells and boreholes in offshore Arctic where permafrost and gas hydrates might be encountered, relevant detection methods and conclusions. |
