Record #108798:

The method by which Cephenemia trompe (Modeer) larvae invade reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) / John R. Anderson, Arne C. Nilssen.

Title: The method by which Cephenemia trompe (Modeer) larvae invade reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) / John R. Anderson, Arne C. Nilssen.
Author(s): Anderson, John R.
Nilssen, Arne C.
Date: 1990.
In: Rangifer. (1990.), (1990)
Abstract: Laboratory electrostimulated Cephenemia trompe (Modeer) females forcefully expelled larvae 5-20 cm. Each of 20 droplets contained two or more larvae; as droplets dried, so did larvae. When 5-20 larvae were dropped in saline onto different areas of muzzle of restrained reindeer, only larvae deep within nostrils or on lips crawled out of sight. Larvae deposited by wild females onto CO₂-baited reindeer model with muzzle, lips and nostrils coated with adhesive were all stuck along dorsal lip.
