Abstract: Article describes special conditions of feeding of Svalbard reindeer and deduces from high-fibre winter diet that specially adapted microflora should be present in rumen or caecum. Investigations followed up this deduction. pH values at different seasons were also found. In vitro digestibility trials of food plants were also carried out.
