Abstract: Loss of control of flowing artesian well near Fairbanks, AK, in 1976 resulted in icing and flooding. Examination of conditions and drilling practices used to control this and another artesian well near Fairbanks illustrate importance of using methods of construction that are suitable to perennially frozen ice-rich soils.
