Record #108267:

Stability of floating and submerged blocks / Steven F. Daly, Kathleen D. Axelson.

Title: Stability of floating and submerged blocks / Steven F. Daly, Kathleen D. Axelson.
Author(s): Daly, Steven F.
Axelson, Kathleen D.
Date: 1990.
Abstract: Determining conditions in which floating ice blocks in flowing water will remain stable, i.e. not rotating, is fundamental for understanding of mechanics of development of river ice jams and for design of ice-control works. In this article, rotational stability of submerged and floating right parallelepiped blocks is described. Theory can be extended to describe limit of rotational stability of any floating or submerged object.
