Record #108200:

A salt oscillator in the global Atlantic? 2. A "scale analysis" model / G. Edward Birchfield, Wallace S. Broecker.

Title: A salt oscillator in the global Atlantic? 2. A "scale analysis" model / G. Edward Birchfield, Wallace S. Broecker.
Author(s): Birchfield, G. Edward.
Broecker, Wallace S.
Date: 1990.
Abstract: Follows up previous paper by W.S. Broecker and others (in press) in which proposal is made that rapid changes on time scale of 1 ka, seen over much of last major glacial in Greenland ice-core record, represent significant climate changes and are caused by salt oscillator in global Atlantic. Presents quantitative estimates of feasibility of such an oscillator and proposes further that mass balance of ice sheets, particularly Fennoscandian, may have role in such oscillations. Explores, with rudimentary quantitative model, possibility of Atlantic salt oscillator acting as mechanism causing climate oscillations seen in Greenland ice-core record.
