Record #107679:
Quaternary glaciations in the Southern Ocean: sector 0° long.--180° long / Kevin J. Hall.
Title: | Quaternary glaciations in the Southern Ocean: sector 0° long.--180° long / Kevin J. Hall. |
Author(s): | Hall, Kevin J. |
Date: | 1990. |
In: | Quaternary Science Reviews. (1990.), Vol. 9(2-3) (1990) |
Abstract: | Islands in Southern Ocean east of 0° long. are all volcanic and glacial features may be masked and confused by lava flows and faulting. Most detailed dated Quaternary record is from Marion Island, where oldest glaciation had five stadials, penultimate had three, and last had ended by 12 ka BP. Glacier expansion is closely related to northward migration of Antarctic Convergence, when lower temperature converts high rainfall into snowfall. |
