Cable rime accretion measurements on a Laurentian mountain / Pierre McComber, Jacques Druez, Béatrice Félin.
Title: | Cable rime accretion measurements on a Laurentian mountain / Pierre McComber, Jacques Druez, Béatrice Félin. |
Author(s): | McComber, Pierre. Druez, Jacques. Félin, Béatrice. |

Abstract: | Measurement of icing rates on stranded cables at altitude 902 m during 1986-87 winter. Ice accretion and shedding are correlated with ice detector alarms and wind velocity, respectively. Icing intensity, proportional to number of icing alarms per unit time, is strongly correlated with cable icing rate. Significant correlation also verified between wind velocity and ice shedding. Results show that wind velocity and icing detector alarm rate are important variables to predict total ice mass on cables exposed to winter in-cloud icing. With more data, improved icing model for power transmission line cables could be developed. |
