Abstract: Laboratory tests carried out on species of Larix, Picea and Pinus. Damage is caused: (1) in case of native species, by frosts during vegetation period, not by winter frosts; (2) by climatic stress in winter leading to desiccation; (3) by ice-crystal formation (rather than by low temperatures as such), which takes place at about -2°C.
