Abstract: Experimental study in large, vertical wind tunnel. Saline spray was directed normal to disc to create stagnation flow; air speed and temperature in range found in marine icing. Two growth regimes: mushy accretion at lower air temperatures, columnar accretion at air temperatures closer to equilibrium freezing temperature. Measurement of ice fraction showed low values which decreased further below fresh-water values with increasing air temperature. Measurements of ice growth indicated linear form in mushy regime and logarithmic form in columnar regime.
