Impact of dams on the ice regime of rivers / Bernard Michel.
Title: | Impact of dams on the ice regime of rivers / Bernard Michel. |
Author(s): | Michel, Bernard. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | Espoo: Helsinki University of Technology |
In: | IAHR. The 10th Symposium on Ice, August 20-24, 1990, Espoo, Finland. Proceedings. (1990.), Vol. 2. |
Abstract: | Discusses modifications by dam of thermal regime of river, so that frazil and slush formation may lead to localization of hanging dams at upstream end of backwaters formed by dam. At breakup, dam retains ice, forming jam at backwater. This often melts in place and so protects lower reach from jamming. Effects of dam on time of freezeup and breakup is also discussed. |
Notes: | In: IAHR. The 10th Symposium on Ice, August 20-24, 1990, Espoo, Finland. Proceedings. Vol. 2. / International Association for Hydrological Research. |
