Author(s): | Jones, Stephen J. Hardiman, K. C. Ritch, R. Abdelnour, Razek. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | Espoo: Helsinki University of Technology |
In: | IAHR. The 10th Symposium on Ice, August 20-24, 1990, Espoo, Finland. Proceedings. (1990.), Vol. 2. |
Abstract: | Study with 1/20 scale model of R-class icebreaker towed through ice of different densities, ranging from 0.80 to 0.92 Mg m⁻³. Ice used was wax-based and could be formed at different densities by varying properties of ingredients. Results showed that increasing density led to increased submergence times for ice, thus increasing chance of ice/propeller interaction. Smaller pieces of ice rose to surface more rapidly than larger. Less propeller/ice interaction for slower speed tests than for higher. Discussion, Vol. 3, p. 396-397, 399-400. |
