Mechanical properties of sea ice and sea ice deformation in the nearshore zone / Lewis H. Shapiro, Peter W. Barnes, Arnold Hanson, Earl R. Hoskins, Jerome B. Johnson, Ronald C. Metzner.

Title: Mechanical properties of sea ice and sea ice deformation in the nearshore zone / Lewis H. Shapiro, Peter W. Barnes, Arnold Hanson, Earl R. Hoskins, Jerome B. Johnson, Ronald C. Metzner.
Author(s): Shapiro, Lewis H.
Barnes, Peter W.
Hanson, Arnold.
Hoskins, Earl R.
Johnson, Jerome B.
Metzner, Ronald C.
Date: 1990.
In: Outer Continental Shelf Environmental Assessment Program. Final Reports of Principal Investigators. (1990.), Vol. 72 (1990)
Abstract: Presents results of programme designed to develop and test procedures and hardware required for in situ measurement of strength and other mechanical properties of sea ice, to use appropriate procedures to determine deformational behaviour of ice, and to combine experimental results with existing data for use as background in search for appropriate stress-strain law and failure criterion for sea ice. In addition, studies on fast-ice deformation were undertaken, including ice-push, ice-sheet vibration as indicator of rising stress levels, ice gouges, and other topics. Results are described in ten subsections.
