| Abstract: | Nork Polarinstitutt has assumed role as coordinating body for database, at present using Norwegian POLYDOC information system, to include all source material, both in Norway and abroad, relevant to Norwegian history in all polar areas and all historical activities in Norwegian polar areas. Summarizes initial project, to run until May 1992, which concentrates on film and photographs. Eventual intention is to generate electronically copies of photographs to accompany written information. POLYDOC is already being used at Norsk Polarinstitutt for gradual transfer of main Library catalogue, for recording collection of diaries of participants in polar expeditions and winterings, and by archive of place-names in Norwegian polar areas. |
