Abstract: Factors with great influence on longevity of radio transmitters for whales are size, weight and design of tags, attachment devices and attachment techniques. It is important to design transmitters and attachment devices for individual species, especially when deployed by remote delivery. Also discusses attachment methods (harnesses, bolts, needles, darts) and physiological considerations (choice of material, wound healing)
