Record #105067:
Glacimarine processes at ground-line fans and their growth to ice-contact deltas / Ross D. Powell.
Title: | Glacimarine processes at ground-line fans and their growth to ice-contact deltas / Ross D. Powell. |
Author(s): | Powell, Ross D. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | London: Geological Society |
In: | Glacimarine environments : processes and sediments. (1990.), |
Abstract: | Describes how grounding-line fans form from full tunnel glacial discharges into marine environment. Fan systems are described using fluid dynamics with examples from modern and Carboniferous sedimentary sequences. Many variations can occur. If tidewater or ice-shelf terminus remains stable for some time, and sediment rates at grounding line are greater than terminus retreat rates, fan can build to sea level and forms ice-contact delta. |
