Abstract: Red Dog site in north-west Alaska lies entirely within permafrost terrain that has no natural sand and gravel deposits suitable for construction of foundation pads, roads, etc. All necessary construction materials were processed from highly weathered, frost-fractured frozen rock. Describes procedures used for evaluation of sources and criteria adopted to improve performances of engineered fills.
