Record #104750:
The enigma of oxygen isotope stage 5 in the central Fram Strait / S.E.I. Köhler, R.F. Spielhagen.
Title: | The enigma of oxygen isotope stage 5 in the central Fram Strait / S.E.I. Köhler, R.F. Spielhagen. |
Author(s): | Köhler, S. E. I. Spielhagen, R. F. |
Date: | 1990. |
Publisher: | Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic |
In: | Geological history of the polar oceans : Arctic versus Antarctic. (1990.), |
Abstract: | Stable oxygen isotope stratigraphy for last 150 ka is established in sedimentary cores from this region. Radiometric ages obtained by U/Th method in one core provide absolute time framework. δ¹⁸O record from substage 5a in central Fram Strait is represented by lighter δ¹⁸O ratios than substage 5e. This probably reflects lower salinities of uppermost water column due to intense melting of icebergs and/or supply of meltwater from adjacent land masses rather than higher sea surface temperatures. |
