Depth of snow and frost on a palsa mire, Finnish Lapland / Matti Seppälä.
Title: | Depth of snow and frost on a palsa mire, Finnish Lapland / Matti Seppälä. |
Author(s): | Seppälä, Matti. |
Date: | 1990. |
In: | Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (1990.), Vol. 72A(2) (1990) |
Abstract: | Snow and frost measurements were made on palsa mire at Utsjoki from September 1984 to October 1985. Snow cover was unusually thin, and January and February were very cold. In natural conditions frost penetrated to maximum depth of 73 cm into peat. Some frost remained throughout thawing season. Quite good multiple and logarithmic regressions were found between snow and frost depths in March and April. New palsa formation possible under these conditions. Includes list of dominating plant species. |
Notes: | Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. Vol. 72A(2) :191-201 (1990). |
