Abstract: | Argues that recollections of past often present local interpretations of causal connections which are also metamessages about how people see their present relations to each other and how they conceive their community as collective entity related to outside world. Exemplified by accounts of successful development of commercial prawn trawling in coastal community of about 600 inhabitants of Saami, Norwegian and "mixed" origin in Troms, north Norway, just after World War II. |
