Formed in 1886, the A.E.C. never succeeded in mounting an expedition, credit for the 1911-14 Australasian Antarctic Expedition going instead to the Australasian Association for the Advancement of Science. Provides insights into attitudes towards science, commerce and exploration in the late 19th century. |
