Abstract: | Data for daily ice ablation on Nordbogletscher (1979-83) and Qamanârssûp sermia (1980-86) are used to test model which calculates ablation from climatic data. Mean errors are small: larger for Qamanârssûp sermia, which may be due to variations in ice albedo,, but model also underestimates ablation during Föhn events. Model suggests radiation accounts for 2/3 mean ablation for June-August at both sites, while turbulent fluxes account for 1/3. Average ablation rate is higher at Qamanârssûp sermia than at Nordbogletscher because both sensible-heat flux and short-wave radiation are higher. |
