La Norvegia intende riaprire la caccia alla balena / Anon.
Title: | La Norvegia intende riaprire la caccia alla balena / Anon. |
Translated title: | Norway wishes to resume commercial whaling. |
Date: | 1990. |
Language: | Italian. |
In: | Polar News = Notizie Polari. (1990.), Vol. 5(6) (1990) |
Abstract: | Norwegians have proposed removal of gray whale [Eschrichtius robustus] from list of protected species, maintaining that catch of 1700-2000 will not have adverse effect on stock. It is almost certain that present stock numbers between 50,000 and 115,000, probably about 77,000. They argue that it is not merely matter of protecting interests of coastal peoples with tradition of whaling, but of wise stewardship of balance of marine resources. Proposal to be discussed at meeting of International Whaling Commission in July 1990. |
