Norwegian-Iceland seas: transfer functions between marine planktic diatoms and surface water temperature / H. Schrader, N. Koc Karpuz.

Title: Norwegian-Iceland seas: transfer functions between marine planktic diatoms and surface water temperature / H. Schrader, N. Koc Karpuz.
Author(s): Schrader, H.

Date: 1990.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic
In: Geological history of the polar oceans : Arctic versus Antarctic. (1990.),
Abstract: Marine plankton diatoms are abundant and diverse in 42 sediment surface samples from Iceland, southern Greenland and Norwegian seas. 42 species distinguished. Q-mode factor analysis applied to 42 samples with 16 selected diatom species yielded 4 factors. Mapping them showed their close affinity to hydrographic regimes: Iceland, Intermediate, Atlantic-Norwegian Current and East Iceland Current. Palaeo-ecological functions were defined to estimate August and February sea-surface temperatures from core-top diatom assemblages in temperature range -1.7 to 13.4°C. Standard errors of estimate are better than ±1.2°C. None of factors shows correlation to productivity.
