Record #104191:

The evolution of the Svalbard margins: synthesis and new results / E. Sundvor, Atle Austegard.

Title: The evolution of the Svalbard margins: synthesis and new results / E. Sundvor, Atle Austegard.
Author(s): Sundvor, E.
Austegard, Atle.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: Dordrecht: Kluwer Academic
In: Geological history of the polar oceans : Arctic versus Antarctic. (1990.),
Abstract: Recent results from deep seismic profiling, as well as measurements of heat flow and gravity, have revealed that geological history of Svalbard margin largely reflects plate-tectonic evolution of Greenland Sea (Fram Strait) and Eurasian Basin. Main structural feature on western margin is Hornsund fault zone. On northern margin, continental basement continues on to southern Yermak Plateau; east of there, continent-ocean transition is speculative. Substantial swath of crust of unknown origin between anomaly 24 and suggested boundary could indicate earlier onset of sea-floor spreading than in Norwegian-Greenland Sea.
