Record #104188:

The use of NOAA-AVHRR satellite data for monitoring sea ice motion in the Greenland Sea / Stefan W. Dech.

Title: The use of NOAA-AVHRR satellite data for monitoring sea ice motion in the Greenland Sea / Stefan W. Dech.
Author(s): Dech, Stefan W.
Date: [1990]
Publisher: Darmstadt-Eberstadt: EUMETSAT
Abstract: 145 data sets of AHVRR on board NOAA-9 and NOAA-10 satellites, acquired in May 1988 as part of "Arktis 88" experiment, are used for analysis of sea-ice motion in area of Fram Strait and Greenland Sea. Combination with additional data sets enables evaluation of different parameters which cause ice drift: wind regime, ocean currents, ice concentration, or surface roughness. Analysis of vector fields shows clearly that atmospheric motion strongly determines both direction and speed of sea-ice motion.
Notes:

Offprint: Proceedings, 4th AVHRR Data Users' Meeting. Rothenburg, F. R. Germany, 5-8 September 1989 / EUMETSAT [European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites].
