Record #104184:

USNS Bartlett cruise to the Greenland Sea in September 1989. Data report / Robert H. Bourke, Robert F. Blythe, Robert G. Paquette.

Title: USNS Bartlett cruise to the Greenland Sea in September 1989. Data report / Robert H. Bourke, Robert F. Blythe, Robert G. Paquette.
Author(s): Bourke, Robert H.
Blythe, Robert F.
Paquette, Robert G.
Date: 1990.
Publisher: Monterey, CA: Naval Postgraduate School
Abstract: As component of Greenland Sea Project, hydrographic cruise conducted to characterize water-mass structure and circulation features of Jan Mayen Current. 48 high-quality CTD stations were occupied to depths of 1000 m; five stations extended to 3000 m or more. Five N-S tending transects permitted tracking of Current by its low-temperature, low-salinity, near-surface core. It could also be well defined by its warm, saline intermediate-water properties. Suggests that interchange of deep and bottom water from Greenland and Norwegian seas via trough of Jan Mayen fracture zone is slow, diffusive process and not active advective feature.
Keywords: 551.465 -- Oceanography, dynamics.
551.465.5 -- Ocean currents.
91(08) -- Expeditions: 1989 Bartlett.
