Abstract: | Food habits of three sub-populations of Falco rusticolus were studied in coastal, lakeland and heathland habitats of north-eastern Iceland by analysis of 2316 pellets collected from February 1984 to July 1985. Rock ptarmigan [Lagopus mutus] was main prey and most important during early phase of breeding season (April-June) and between August and December. Coastal gyrfalcons had most variable diet. Switching to alternate prey involved in most cases change of hunting habitat. |
