Impact of ice algae on inorganic nutrients in seawater and sea ice in Barrow Strait, NWT, Canada, during spring / Glenn F. Cota, Jeffrey L. Anning, Leslie R. Harris, William Glenn Harrison, Ralph E.H. Smith.

Title: Impact of ice algae on inorganic nutrients in seawater and sea ice in Barrow Strait, NWT, Canada, during spring / Glenn F. Cota, Jeffrey L. Anning, Leslie R. Harris, William Glenn Harrison, Ralph E.H. Smith.
Author(s): Cota, Glenn F.
Anning, Jeffrey L.
Harris, Leslie R.
Harrison, William Glenn.
Smith, Ralph E. H.
Date: 1990.
In: Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. (1990.), Vol. 47(7) (1990)
Abstract: Describes distributions and dynamics of nutrients and algal biomass in sea water and sea ice to establish relative importance of biological vs. physical-chemical processes in determining observed patterns. Data show that ice algal communities have major impact on chemical distributions in bottom few centimetres of sea ice and in surface sea water, modifying absolute concentrations and relative abundance of certain inorganic nutrients in system.
