Abstract: Dynamic-thermodynamic sea-ice model is coupled to one-dimensional model of oceanic mixed layer and pycnocline, and is applied to Weddell Sea. Model determines prognostically vertical oceanic heat flux from mixed layer dynamics in contrast to earlier sea-ice modelling where oceanic heat flux was prescribed. Polynya and palaeoclimate simulations were carried out to investigate effects of sea-ice dynamics, and mixed layer-pycnocline model is compared to original Kraus-Turner approach.
